Thought I'd finally express my opinion :3


Nearly every detail we could think of is taken from Mother nature - yes, definitely. Nearly everything was already discovered before - yes, most likely. And ideas often may be VERY similar - sure, I totally agree with that.
But that means Nothing, because even with all this said and admitted, I DO see many original artists with unique ideas AND styles here. I do see, as well, very similar ideas realized in such ways, that "old" becomes totally "new" - mindblowing, eye-catching and RECOGNIZABLE new. That IS originality.
When out of the whole number of similar by their basic concepts beasts you see one and mistakelessly recognize - "Oh, that is =ahkahna's Taschevah!" or *trancymick's Sergals or ~beastofoblivion's Lockjaws or *pallanoph's Pallanophs. Are they "made" of parts of real life animals? Why sure thing! :3 Will you say that "there's nothing original here?" Out of the whole "sea" of four-legged, reptile-taled, fuzzy, maned predatoric feline-canine-reptile-dragon-like creatures I shall IMMEDIATELY recognize ~psycrowe's draekards and =MorisMontana's ethereals, just as well as I shall always see a "loupdrake" in someone else's creature and find out later, that this person is actually watching me X)

I dig it how some people include solely original ideas into "originality" conception, conveniently leaving out the realization point. I wonder what should this mean?..
"That idea is not original enough for me, and realization means nothing here, so I shall just copy and won't have to give any credits"? XD That's nice, way to go!

Many might say "You shouldn't have posted any of your oh so private and original creations online, if they are so dear to you!". Know what? You are absolutely right :3 But I am almost sure that I shall be right if I say the following... None of the artists, whose creatures got known and loved over time, could imagine, that things will be this way, when they were just starting their "artistic path". Speaking for myself, I may say for sure: if there was an opportunity to "delete" each and every trace of what is so important for me out of people's reach and memories - I would use it ) But now what? Must original artists just shut up and stop defending what they think is theirs because "they should have thought of the concequences before" and just deal with disrespect? Note please, I am not speaking of artists getting paranoid and running to extremes, but of the cases, when obvious copying is present and artist can very much prove it. I myself can name atleast 10 young artists, who are or were inspired by what I draw - but only trice I felt there was necessity to pay attention to the mentioned fact at all.




P.S. Oh, speaking of often used example of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Of course, you may say that there are a lot of copies of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, and no one go drama about it. Three points:
1. HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT, WERE YOU THERE?
2. Da Vinci is dead, and who knows, maybe he would have been enraged, finding out that his marvelous creation is now just a part of pop-culture.
And 3 - when you see Mona Lisa, you ALWAYS know, that it is Da Vinci's creation. It maybe distorted and deformed, but no one will ever assign it as his own creation. And it is right.


P.S. II This is my fixed opinion which I shall hardly change even under a wall of flames. Also, I've never started any arguments with people, sharing opposite P.O.V. - personal opinion is personal opinion, deal with it.
